PACE Scholarship 2022!

The Emmary Butler Foundation would like to congratulate Miss Angela Guzman for being chosen as our 2022 scholar. Angela will be attending Indiana University this fall with future plans of becoming an Ob/Gyn. See her award winning essay below!

Miss Angela Guzman

My dream career would be that of an OBGYN. I believe that no matter the circumstance, everyone should have access to an OBGYN no matter their gender, sexual orientation, religion, etc. I am passionate about people having access to proper healthcare and getting the care that they really need. In order to pursue my dream career, I declared my major as human biology with a minor in Spanish, which will help me cross the language barrier I may experience with future patients. I will also be taking classes at IU Bloomington within the ASURE program that will help me in my future career such as “The Science of Empathy” and “Bacteria, Antibiotics, and Resistance.” These classes will allow me to participate in faculty-led research and project-based learning. I have a strong passion for medicine and human biology is the major that would allow me to go down the path of medicine. It would also allow me to explore many different fields of medicine/health within my major. My goal in life is to graduate from IU Bloomington with a bachelor's degree in human biology and go on to medical school. My biggest dream that has to do with medicine is that of Doctors Without Borders. I want to dedicate part of my life to this organization due to the fact that they work in the field and only work with what they have on hand. Not only that, but they are also driven by equity, diversity, and inclusion. This scholarship would help me greatly, as it would allow me to possibly obtain a laptop for college. A laptop would greatly help me achieve my dream of completing my college education as in my family, I will be the first to have completed middle school, high school, and going on to college. I am also a 21st Century student and an IU GROUPS student as well. I have maintained a steady 4.0 GPA since my junior year despite the COVID-19 pandemic due to the fact that my school district provided laptops at no cost, throughout my junior and senior years. That helped me greatly, as I was able to do my work both in and out of school. I was also able to contact my teachers more often and as a result, I became more productive. This opportunity would do the same for me as before and it would allow me to have access to my work no matter where I am and no matter what time it is. My hope is to possibly work in college and having a laptop would make it so that I can do my work in my spare time. A laptop would also make it so that I can become more productive and study more regularly. It will also be something that I will have to use regularly, as I will have to take part in rigorous research and writing for my future lab work. I would just like to thank you for your time and consideration!

The Dr.Emmary Butler Endowed Scholarship at XULA

This year I’ve been keeping a little secret =) As I looked for ways to take my foundation to another level, a strong message came to my mind and heart. “Endow a scholarship at your beloved Xavier” it said “It will last forever and provide scholarships for students in need” it said. As a result, I’ve been working with the university to endow the Dr. Emmary Butler scholarship at XULA. The endowment is $25,000. Once established it will provide an annual $2,000 scholarship for a Pre-Med student from Fort Wayne that is in good standing with the university. My goal is to keep a steady stream of Fort Wayne students in the university.

Here’s where you come in…. =)

From October 10 (my Birthday) until October 15 (the foundation’s 2nd year anniversary), I will personally match half of the donations made to benefit the endowment of the scholarship!! Click the donate button below to give TODAY!!!
